THEORETICAL BACKGROUND

Our work is guided by pioneers in the fields of mindfulness, positive psychology, neuroscience and child mental health experts (Hanson, Perry, Siegel, Willard, Greenland Nhat Hanh,) and is enhanced by our extensive
teaching experience and knowledge of children and child development.
Our intervention is based on the ‘Bottom Up Approach’ to brain development from the work of Dr Bruce Perry, as developed by Dr Shoshanah Lyons, Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Director of Beacon House, a specialist mental health and trauma team based in Sussex.

MEASURING IMPACT

The effectiveness of the intervention is measured in a variety of ways.
At the end of an intervention participants, parents/carers and teachers
will be asked for subjective feedback via our questionnaire
based on the Warwick-Edinburgh Wellbeing Scale.
This data is collated by us and helps to inform our intervention as we
seek to continually improve our offer.
We also complete regular case studies to give us detailed
feedback and have a wealth of testimonials from families,
young people and professionals.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

The key to the success of our intervention is practice. Building new neural pathways requires practice and repetition.
Our aim is that the children continue to use the toolkit they have built with us after the intervention is complete. The activities we use with the children and families are all fun and child centred and will have positive effects on the brain wiring if used regularly.
We ensure they choose tools which they enjoy and find helpful. As creativity is an important part of our work, we encourage the children to adapt, choose, invent and develop their own tools. Agency and responsibility are key factors in our work!
